Dr. Drake is well known for offering IV sedation which allows patients to sleep while they have their dental work done. Also, he uses state of the art dental implants and surgery techniques for those who want to replace missing teeth. Dr. McDonnell is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He joined the practice in July of 2007 after completing a three-year tour of duty in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, Dr. McDonnell served for a year on a Marine Corps base in Parris Island South Carolina and for two years at a large naval hospital in Bethesda Maryland. He was the head of the Pediatric Dental Clinic in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry Department at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda Maryland. While at Parris Island, he served as the Head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Marine Corps Air Station. Dr. McDonnell completed his pediatric dental residency in 2004 at the University of Florida, where he served as Chief Resident. In 2002, he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. McDonnell received his bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry from Georgetown University in Washington DC. While in dental school, Dr. McDonnell was the President of his class, a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society, and a member of the Psi Omega dental fraternity. He was also the pediatric dentistry class representative and the recipient of the American Society of Pediatric Dentistry’s award for Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. McDonnell competed on Georgetown University’s swim team and represented Georgetown University twice at the Big East Championships.
